On the morning of the 4th our mom started having contractions. She thought she was having some Braxton hicks so she went back to sleep. Around 6:00 am they started to hurt. She immediately called our dad, who was across the world in China, and told him about the contractions and told him how nervous she was. Daddy told her to call Grandma Stacy and then call the Dr. After trying grandma and getting no answer she called the on call doctor. Luckily it was Dr Terry. He called her right back and asked what was going on. Our calm mom said she was having contractions that were about 4-5 minutes apart. Dr Terry said to head in, he would check her out and hopefully have her on her way back home shortly after. Mom called grandma and told her to head out and pick her and our sisters up to head to the hospital. Mom called dad and told him she was headed in, that it probably wasn't a big deal and would keep him posted.
Grandma got to our house and picked up mom and our sisters and tried to get to the hospital as fast as she could. It was 7:30 and that meant morning rush hour. The drive down 114th to the freeway seemed like it lasted for an hour. The freeway was backed up so they took an alternate route. Mom was pretty sure they hit every red light until they were able to get back on the freeway. Moms contractions were hard and getting closer together. She was trying to keep calm so she wouldn't scare Mollie and Sallie in the back seat.
We finally got to the hospital around 8:00 am. Mom walked inside and checked in at Labor and Delivery while grandma met grandpa to give him our sisters and dog. Mom was glad because Dr Terry had a triage room all ready for her when she got there. Dr Terry was in surgery so the nurse took care of mom until he could get there. She hooked mom up to a monitor to see how fast the contractions were coming and make sure our heart rates were staying steady. Moms contractions were about a minute apart. Mom was in pain but was very calm, nervous, but calm. The nurse gave mom a shot in her arm that felt like a bee sting to help calm the contractions. She also gave her an IV thinking she could be a little dehydrated from being pregnant with twins. She started giving her fluids. Dr Terry finally arrived close to 9:00. He was surprised to see mom was in pain and contractions so close. A week prior at moms appointment everything was fantastic. Her cervix wasn't thinning, she wasn't dilated, she looked good and so did we. Dr Terry said that even though everything looked good then we couldn't trust moms body. When her body decided it was time to labor it just did it. Dr Terry was very calm. He told mom everything was probably going to be fine. He slipped on his gloves to check mom. Mom could tell by his face that he was concerned. The next words he said were terrifying, "dilated to a 5, 90% effaced, you will be staying here for the duration of your pregnancy".
