Our Birthday.. Part Two

December 4th, 2014

The reason Dr Terry wanted at least 48 hours was so he could get two shots in mom so our lungs would develop faster. At 10:00 am mom got the first shot in her hip and it hurt. She couldn't get the next shot for 24 hours. Dr Terry said it would take 12 hours for the shot to work so we needed at least 12 hours for better chances that our lungs would be about 80% more developed than had mom not gotten the shot. Mom was on strict bed rest from here on out. They gave her a cathader and tilted her bed so her feet were higher up than her head to take pressure off her cervix to preserve her water from breaking. She was on an IV of fluids and couldn't eat. She drank a lot of Apple juice though.
The contractions started up again so Dr Terry decided to give mom another medication that would stop the contractions all together.
She got the Medication and it helped slow the contractions. The only problem was moms blood pressure was dropping way too low with this medication which is a side effect of it. Mom was nervous and prayed a lot over the next few hours. In the moments of stress and anxiety she prayed for her and us to be ok. Through all of the trauma our heartbeats stayed steady. We were fighters. Mom was more worried about her blood pressure and keeping us inside. She knew and felt calm that we were doing ok inside her. During the stressful moments she said silent prayers. She felt the spirit so strong in those moments and felt her Angels from the other side helping her stay strong. She felt Grandma Kalani and Grandpa Cal standing right beside her and knew Grandpa Dave was helping those babies. It was quite a spiritual experience for her. She was happy she had so much love and support surrounding her. She wouldn't have been able to do it with them. Grandpa JJ and Grandpa Chris gave her a blessing. She was so grateful to have grandpa chris by her side and grandma Stacy as well. They made her feel the most calm since daddy wasn't there.
Dr Terry came in to check on the three of us before he headed home. He told mom things had slowed down and he was pretty positive he could get that second shot in her hip the next morning at 10am and deliver Saturday. He also told mom his partner, Dr Froyer would be taking care of us for the night and that he wouldn't check her again  until the following evening. If anything was to change he would be down right away.
In the meantime Jeff had gotten to the hospital and was ready to give mom a blessing. It was beautiful and put her mind at ease. Moms blood pressure came up and her contractions were only coming every 20 minutes or so. She was having uterine activity but not contractions. Moms sisters arrived and were there to support her as well. We were all grateful for all the love and support.
During the next few hours thing had slowed a bit and things were looking steady. Mom talked to dad who was getting ready to board an airplane to come home from China. The last thing she told dad was that we were looking to shoot for Saturday so to get home quick. Around 10:00 pm mom started getting more contractions. The nurse did everything she could to try to keep mom comfortable and steady, but the contractions were coming fairly close again and were starting to really hurt. We had people trying to get hold of dad to tell him things were changing fast but they couldn't get him. He was in transit to Seattle and would be to Utah Friday afternoon at 1 pm.
Mom was getting nervous and was stressed about the contractions and dad not making it. Jeff offered to step in for Tom and so did Grandpa Chris. That made mom feel a little better. The nurse came in and said she got the go to check me from Dr Froyer. That made mom nervous and she didn't want them to because Dr Terry said he didn't want to check her until the next evening because he didn't want to disturb her water being broke. But, she said Dr Terry gave the go on it. The nurse checked mom. Mom was dilated to a 10 and there was not any other option but to deliver those babies. Mom sobbed in nervousness. They checked to see how we were positioned. Tommie was head down, Annie and was still breech. C section was the only option.

Our Birthday.. Part One

December, 4th 2014...

On the morning of the 4th our mom started having contractions. She thought she was having some Braxton hicks so she went back to sleep. Around 6:00 am they started to hurt. She immediately called our dad, who was across the world in China, and told him about the contractions and told him how nervous she was. Daddy told her to call Grandma Stacy and then call the Dr. After trying grandma and getting no answer she called the on call doctor. Luckily it was Dr Terry. He called her right back and asked what was going on. Our calm mom said she was having contractions that were about 4-5 minutes apart. Dr Terry said to head in, he would check her out and hopefully have her on her way back home shortly after. Mom called grandma and told her to head out and pick her and our sisters up to head to the hospital. Mom called dad and told him she was headed in, that it probably wasn't a big deal and would keep him posted.
Grandma got to our house and picked up mom and our sisters and tried to get to the hospital as fast as she could. It was 7:30 and that meant morning rush hour. The drive down 114th to the freeway seemed like it lasted for an hour. The freeway was backed up so they took an alternate route. Mom was pretty sure they hit every red light until they were able to get back on the freeway. Moms contractions were hard and getting closer together. She was trying to keep calm so she wouldn't scare Mollie and Sallie in the back seat.
We finally got to the hospital around 8:00 am. Mom walked inside and checked in at Labor and Delivery while grandma met grandpa to give him our sisters and dog. Mom was glad because Dr Terry had a triage room all ready for her when she got there. Dr Terry was in surgery so the nurse took care of mom until he could get there. She hooked mom up to a monitor to see how fast the contractions were coming and make sure our heart rates were staying steady. Moms contractions were about a minute apart. Mom was in pain but was very calm, nervous, but calm. The nurse gave mom a shot in her arm that felt like a bee sting to help calm the contractions. She also gave her an IV thinking she could be a little dehydrated from being pregnant with twins. She started giving her fluids. Dr Terry finally arrived close to 9:00. He was surprised to see mom was in pain and contractions so close. A week prior at moms appointment everything was fantastic. Her cervix wasn't thinning, she wasn't dilated, she looked good and so did we. Dr Terry said that even though everything looked good then we couldn't trust moms body. When her body decided it was time to labor it just did it. Dr Terry was very calm. He told mom everything was probably going to be fine. He slipped on his gloves to check mom. Mom could tell by his face that he was concerned. The next words he said were terrifying, "dilated to a 5, 90% effaced, you will be staying here for the duration of your pregnancy".
Just hearing those words made mom cry. She was nervous. Dad was in China and she was just nervous. Dr Terry took moms hand and told her he wanted to do everything possible to keep us inside mom as long as he could. He hoped he could get a week, but if he got 48 hours he would be happy.
